Our Response to "Rumble in the Bronx"

"In the movie the Bronx is shown to be very untidy and dirty. There are dark alleys with a large amount of rubbish. There is also a large number of broken windows and a large amount of graffiti. "Rumble in the Bronx" gives the impression that the Bronx is very dirty because of rubbish as well as the large amount of broken windows and graffiti".

"Rumble in the Bronx" shows that life, is hard for the people living in the Bronx.. It is shown in the movie that people who don't follow the law are very wealthy due to the fact that they steal other people's belongings. Therefore this gives the impression that if you don't follow the law you can become wealthy. In "Rumble in the Bronx" it is also shown that an owner of a Business who attempts to clean up her store to maker life better in the Bronx is constantly terrorised by other members of the community. This resulted in her store being completely destroyed once and trashed once. In conclusion it is hard to follow the law in the Bronx or to make it a better place".

"The movie "Rumble in the Bronx" portrays the Bronx as a dangerous and crime-ridden area. Even though the movie focuses on the shady criminals of the Bronx there were still kind and considerate people like the uncle who was trying to improve the quality of life in the Bronx. I do think the movie was correct in portraying it as a rough area where certain activities would be dangerous. However, I also believe the movie took the reality of the Bronx to an extreme level where it was heavily exaggerated".

"The movie, "Rumble in the Bronx" conveys a distressed neighbourhood that is not safe from gangs, vandalism and violence. This movie allows the viewer to believe that the Bronx needs help. However, to our disbelief this was proposed to be the truth, but what the movie also shows us is that the area has many people trying to improve the Bronx's living conditions".

"The physical appearance of the Bronx as portrayed in the movie is negative. It is shown as a place were every building is gratified and has rubbish all over the streets. The types of architecture are very simple, old and run down and there are no high rise buildings in the area. Dark alleyways are also shown extensively as places with heavily gratified walls and a lot of rubbish. There are also many slums in the area. The physical environment of the Bronx is portrayed very negatively in the film".

"Rumble in the Bronx" shows that life is hard for people living in the Bronx who want to follow the law or make life better. This is because of gangs that roam the streets taking what they want, gratifying their tags and smashing things that are in their way. Prostitutes also walk the street at night, which gives the place a bad image. Also the fact that the only people wearing suits and driving flashy cars are criminals. This alone draws people into a life of crime and breaking the law. In conclusion, the film shows living in the Bronx is tough because of the amount of crime".

"It portrays the Bronx to be on the whole a run down dysfunctional, vandalised place with high levels of crime and as violence inclined environment. However, it does show some positive things, such as people like Jackie and his uncle trying to improve the Bronx and make it a better place. Rumble in the Bronx shows, on the whole the Bronx as an area with both positives and negatives, however the negatives outweighed the positives. We believe this perhaps to be an unfair interpretation of the Bronx but as we have not been there we cannot say for sure".

"The Bronx in New York has been portrayed in the movie as the bad side of NY. In the Bronx there is a lot of graffiti and not a lot of shops. The movie portrays that there are a lot of gangs and fights that occur in the area".

"In Rumble in the Bronx the area of the Bronx is portrayed as a dirty and dangerous place. There is contrasts in the movie this is that at one stage you see the Bronx it is dirty and grafted and there is gangs doing dangerous things. The next scene is of Manhattan were it is very clean with big high rise buildings. From this comparison you get the impression that the Bronx is a bad place to live".

"The Bronx is reflected in the movie as not a pleasant place. This is because the scenery is covered in graffiti. The Bronx is seen to be made up with small tightly compacted low cost apartments with dark alleyways strewn with rubbish. This gives us the impression that the Bronx is a bad, underprivileged place. The movie portrays many people in the Bronx as criminals".
