"My perception of the Bronx from the media is a place ridden with crime, drugs and gang warfare. There is graffiti on most or all of the walls and there is much crime. Gangs stalk the streets and drugs and crime is accepted as an every day occurrence. However, I really don't think it is like this."

"My Thoughts on the Bronx:

All the buildings are dirty with graffiti everywhere

Lots of dark ally ways with rubbish everywhere

Lots of people on drugs

Gangs everywhere

High density low cost living

Lots of drug dealers

Very multicultural

High crime rate

Lots of homeless

Very run down"

"The Bronx is a crime ridden area with graffiti painted walls and police constantly patrolling the streets. It is a place where gang warfare rules the streets and causes havoc. Shops with hidden back rooms where drugs deals go down. At night no one walks the street in fear for their lives."

"The Bronx is a dangerous place.

There is rubbish everywhere.

Crime is a regular occurrence.

There are many different ethnic groups, which reside there.

Many people own weapons (guns and knives)

Poverty is common.

Graffiti covers many buildings.

Drugs and alcohol are a way of life for many people in the Bronx.

There are many dark alleys.

People commit robberies to support themselves.

Gang warfare is very common."

"This is what I think of the Bronx: a world turned upside down. Is this the real Bronx or is it a stereotypical Bronx? My group has decided that this area of the so called Beautiful City, New York, is an area corrupted only by the camera rather than the gang. The Bronx is assaulted violently by the film and T.V. industry. This Bronx is turned upside down by crime horror and corruption. Our goal in this exercise is to find the true way of living in the Bronx area."

"General Ideas about the Bronx:

Drugs, Poverty, Gangs, Drive by shootings, Guns, Street crime, Burglary, Police, Graffiti Prostitution"

"My Ideas about the Bronx:

lots of graffiti

small tightly compacted apartments

dark alley ways littered with rubbish

street gangs

lots of homeless children

many different cultural backgrounds

lots of crime"
