Media Workshop's approach
to new media and technology integration is grounded in student-centered,
collaborative and inquiry-based strategies for teaching and learning.
Emphasizing three main areas -- professional development, youth development
and curriculum development -- we strive to assist all schools and
organizations we work with in finding unique and creative ways in
which media and technology can enhance instruction and learning, as
it relates to academic excellence and the integration of performance
standards where applicable.
Professional
Development: Technology can be intimidating. Educators are
often expected to integrate new materials, new technologies and
new ways of thinking and learning into their curricula without the
benefit of preparation, time to learn and experiment, or a community
of fellow learners with whom to share their experiences. Our professional
development services are tailored to the individual school and teachers'
needs, using a model that is holistic and flexible. Our approach
focuses on what educators already teach; we collaboratively work
with them to find unique and creative ways in which technology can
support instruction.
Youth
Programs: Our summer and after-school programs engage youth
in finding ways in which media and technology support creative expression
as well as develop a deeper understanding of specific subject matter.
Curriculum
Development: Working with content-area teachers and experts,
we collaboratively develop standards-based curriculum units, exercises
and learning activities that use media and technology to support
instruction.
