Course description:

Spanish is a one-semester course (5 credits), which is requirement for graduation. This course will give the opportunity to the students to participate directly in the teaching-learning process.  The students will be encouraged to learn Spanish using culture, identity, sensitivity and contact.  Students must understand other cultures in relation to their own, so that they may gain a deeper understanding of why they think, live, and behave as they do.  This course will focus on the learner’s interests and the real-life usage of the Spanish language.

 

Course objectives:

1.  Students acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available by learning a foreign language and its various cultures.

 

2.  Students demonstrate understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons of the cultures studied and their own.

 

3.  Students show evidence of becoming life-long learners by using the language for personal enjoyment and enrichment.

Evaluation and grading:

Your final grade of the present semester will be calculated as follows:

Marking period 1, 40%; marking period 2, 40%; and Final Exam 20%.

The grades underlined above will be worth the 80% of the final grade of marking period 1, and the midterm test, 20%.

In order to get the final grade for marking period 2, one research project about Spanish Speaking countries will be worth the 50%; and the grades underlined above the other 50%.

 

* The teacher will be showing the grades to the students once a month individually.  If you miss any kind of work, you will get a zero.  Being responsible is very important in order to pass this course.  There will be just one due date to present any kind of work or assignment.  “Please do not break my heart, by forcing me to give you a bad grade that you deserve”; thank you very much!
