Traditions and Values that Have Shaped Humanities

The Bayard Rustin High School for the Humanities, which opened in September 1983, is a leading four-year college preparatory public high school with special emphasis placed on the humanities. This focus highlights our instructional goals for student literacy including: conceptual and aesthetic skills; critical thinking; and problem solving. In addition, studying the humanities encourages students to value cultural tradition and cultural change. Commitment to the humanities also promotes active citizenship and private contemplation. By incorporating a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary approach to learning, the school strives to maximize opportunities for student growth, achievement, recognition, responsibility, and advancement.

Priority for admission is given to students living in or attending JH/IS schools in District 2.
