Traditions and Values that Have Shaped HumanitiesThe Bayard Rustin High School for the Humanities, which opened in September 1983, is a leading four-year college preparatory public high school with special emphasis placed on the humanities. This focus highlights our instructional goals for student literacy including: conceptual and aesthetic skills; critical thinking; and problem solving. In addition, studying the humanities encourages students to value cultural tradition and cultural change. Commitment to the humanities also promotes active citizenship and private contemplation. By incorporating a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary approach to learning, the school strives to maximize opportunities for student growth, achievement, recognition, responsibility, and advancement.
