The
name of our club is Brazilian-Latinos Unidos of Humanities High
School. Our mission is to promote Brazilian culture to our fellow
students through the national music of Brazil: Samba. Our club is
composed of "Sambistas" (student who play samba music),
Samba dancers ('Passistas"), and "Capoeristas" (students
who practice the Brazilian martial arts/dance Capoeira). Brazilian
- Latinos Unidos of Humanities High School accepts any student interested
in the culture of the largest nation in South America. Our club
performs throughout the year with an emphasis on the Annual Multicultural
Show in March. Our dream is to build a Junior Samba Band of high
school students with dancers and Capoeiristas in order to have an
active cultural exchange with the Brazilian cities of Salvador de
Bahia and Rio de Janiero. In the process of achieving our dream,
we hope to expose the young people of the New York City public schools
to the richness, diversity and excitement of Brazilian culture.
