Introduction

We will be working with an ESL class in a different part of the world.  You will have the opportunity to communicate with another student learning English.  You will be helping each other.  You are going to tell each other what you think is important, what you think about current events and the easiest way to learn English.

The Process

To accomplish this task you will be required to communicate with your e-pal at least once a week.  You will have a journal containing notes, (either on computer or by hand) about your partner.  You must prepare at least ten (10) questions to ask your partner each week.  You will be required to e-mail me at jonesesl@hotmail.com.

Step 1
Choose one topic from the list
    • world hunger
    • over population
    • gang violence
    • teen pregnancy
    • illiteracy

Step 2
Write a brief report (two-three pages) about the topic you have chosen. Use the resources below to help you research your topic.

Remember!  You are going to have to know enough about the topic in order to explain important points to your e-pal. Your report should summarize the important points.

Step 3
Write a letter to your e-pal about the topic you have chosen.  Your e-mail should include:

    • a summary of the report you wrote
    • 3 questions about your topic
    • a response to any new e-mail (letters to you)
    • remeber to "cc" Ms. Jones (send Ms. Jones, jonesesl@hotmail.com, a copy all your correspondence to your partner)
Step 4
Each week you will be required to complete the following:
    • Write a report which describes your partner's (pal's) understanding and view of current events
    • write a second report about your interview with your e-pal
    • Follow the five (5) paragraph essay format
