Objective:
Create transparent backgrounds using Adobe Photoshop. Images that have backgrounds that conflict with the background on the web page can be made transparent. See the example below.

Steps to create a transparent background:

  1. Select the magic wand from the tool bar
  2. Click on the area you want to be transparent. If you need to click on more than one area, hold down the shift key while clicking in the different areas.
  3. Choose Select > Inverse from the menu
  4. Small moving lines should be moving around the image that will have a transparent background.
  5. Choose Edit > Copy from the menu
  6. Choose File > New from the menu. Accept the default settings and make sure Transparent has been selected. Click OK
  7. Choose Edit > Paste
  8. Choose File > Save for Web
  9. Make sure transparency is checked off. GIF is the only option to save images with transparent backgrounds when placing them on the Internet. Click OK
  10. Save the image with a transparent background in your images folder.
