Math
Jeopardy - Shirley Miller
The Math Jeopardy web site was developed by a sixth-grade math
teacher in order to reinforce her students' knowledge of patterns,
decimals, fractions, area, and angles.
Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire? - Joanne Nigro
The "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" PowerPoint game
was developed by a math staff developer in order to motivate students
in her school and reinforce math concepts they are learning in
their classroom.
World
Temperatures - Gloria Bobb
The class examined data on world temperatures. They predicted
and then researched the ways in which these temperatures varied
throughout regions, as well as from one region to the next, or
from continent to continent. Students conducted two sessions in
the school's computer lab and continued with the project independently
thereafter.
Roller
Coasters - Margaret Alcuri
Fifth-grade students learned about friction, kinetic energy, potential
energy, and laws of motion by building a virtual roller coaster
on the web. After the web activity, the students had the chance
to build their own roller coaster using the physical principals
they had learned from the web activity.
M&M Project
- Debbie Eisenbraun and Margaret Alcuri
St. Jude's fourth and fifth-grade students created charts and
graphs to investigate how many of each color M&M the manufacturer
produces. Through this activity, they learned percentages, fractions,
averages, and probability concepts. This activity was done in
two class periods using Microsoft Excel.
Math
Surveys - Teresa Sacks
St. Jude's eighth-grade students developed a survey to assess
students' interests in their school (e.g. music, movies, T.V.
shows, etc.). Then, they distributed the surveys and collected
data. They created charts and graphs to analyze the data.
